AI should make household finance easier to review, not harder to trust.
Renvest uses AI for household questions and receipt extraction. These features must stay scoped, reviewable, and clear about uncertainty so users understand what changed in the plan.
What Renvest uses today, where it helps, and how far along each feature is.
Each card below names a feature, where you see it, what data may be shared with an AI provider, and how far along it is, without exposing household data.

Category memory quality
Monitoring household-approved category memory does not expose the merchant.
For household-approved category memory rules, Renvest can measure later correction events. These signals support review and do not silently change historical financial facts. Public trust materials describe the signal shape so users and reviewers can see how drift is monitored without seeing private household labels.
Source-family trend
The monitor can show which source families appear among corrections to household-approved category memory rules, including counterparty history, provider category, descriptor keyword, AI suggestion, user-confirmed, learned-rule, and unknown.
Anonymous counterparty buckets
Repeated correction pressure is grouped into anonymous buckets such as numbered groups instead of a merchant name, so reviewers can spot repeated drift without seeing the counterparty label.
Public privacy boundary
The trust page explains the signal shape only. It does not read household rows, merchant names, counterparty labels, transaction IDs, rule IDs, prompts, provider payloads, or household values.

What assistant prompts can include
When a signed-in user asks Renvest a typed question, the assistant receives a minimized household snapshot and a redacted user prompt. Voice/realtime intake is deferred from the current public product. If voice is explicitly enabled in a future or separately configured environment, live microphone audio and a minimized household snapshot may be sent to the AI provider during that active session. The snapshot keeps useful planning context such as budgets, cash flow, debt, goals, account summaries, confidence labels, and review queues, while excluding raw account numbers, routing numbers, SSNs, EINs, member emails, invite emails, internal record IDs, and excessive transaction detail.
What receipt extraction can include
Receipt extraction can send receipt image or PDF bytes to the AI provider, and PDFs may also include extracted receipt text context. Renvest uses that input to extract merchant, date, total, taxes, payment hints, and line items. Extracted items remain reviewable because a receipt can be cropped, wrinkled, blurry, duplicated, or partially unreadable.
What categorization prompts can include
Receipt item categorization can send the merchant name and line-item candidates such as item text, SKU, parser category, amount, and allowed budget category IDs. Transaction categorization can send merchant, description, amount, direction, posted date, and allowed category names. These prompts are for suggested categorization only and should be reviewed before being treated as household truth.
What statement extraction can include
Debt statement extraction can send user-uploaded liability statement image or PDF bytes plus the debt context Renvest already has, such as balance, missing fields, and a sanitized account name or subtitle. The model is instructed to extract only values visible on the statement and to mark uncertain fields for review.
How receipt categories affect budgets
When a receipt has item-level categories, Renvest should roll those items into the actual budget categories they belong to. The receipt-level multi-category label is a status, not a spending category.
How AI history is retained
Standard assistant messages are pruned by the retention processor after the configured retention window, defaulting to 90 days. Pinned assistant conversations can remain available for review while the household account is active, and account deletion removes the associated household AI records on the selected deletion schedule.
What stays out of analytics
Product analytics should not include raw balances, transaction names, receipt images, account numbers, child names, provider tokens, emails, or card numbers. Funnel events should describe product actions, not sensitive household data.
Review boundaries
What Renvest should not imply
AI output is not financial, legal, tax, investment, insurance, or estate advice.
AI output is suggestive and reviewable, not financial truth.
AI extraction and categorization can be wrong; users should review low-confidence receipt items, transaction categories, and statement fields before relying on them.
Renvest does not authorize AI subprocessors to train models on Renvest API traffic.
Renvest should label missing fields, estimates, and assumptions before plan recommendations depend on them.
